Social Emotional Learning is at the core of our commitment to nurturing well-rounded, compassionate, and resilient students. It's not just part of our curriculum; it's the foundation of everything we do to support our students' growth and development.

SEL for our younger students

Our young learners start building the foundations of social-emotional skills. They learn to identify emotions and expand their emotional vocabulary. We introduce them to the concept that emotions come with physical sensations and encourage awareness of where they feel these emotions within their bodies. Coping skills are modeled, and the idea of an “emotional regulation toolkit” begins to take shape. Throughout the year, we emphasize important skills such as turn-taking, joining play, compromising, and conflict resolution. Daily opportunities to practice these skills arise during recess, free play, and academic activities.

SEL for our older students

Our older students build upon the foundational skills they have learned about emotions, moving from identification to regulation, and begin to explore deeper. They start questioning what triggers their emotions and how to manage those situations effectively. Students learn that feelings lead to actions, which have consequences, whether positive or negative. They delve into topics like peer pressure, bullying, perspective-taking, and accountability. Diversity and acceptance are examined and discussed. Just like our younger cohort, our 3rd-5th graders utilize their new skills throughout the day, with teachers providing support as needed.
