Dear Prospective Families,
Welcome to our amazing little community!
I began my journey with Kineo as a parent searching for a learning environment that embraced diverse learning styles and could adapt to meet my son’s unique needs. What I discovered was not only a team of compassionate professionals dedicated to meeting him where he was, but also a supportive community of like-minded parents who understood the joys and challenges of raising wonderfully quirky children. My commitment to Kineo grew as I served on the Board of Trustees from 2019 to 2023, further strengthening my connection to this incredible community.
Taking on the role of Director in 2023 gave me the opportunity to combine my background in teaching with my personal experience as a parent of neurodivergent children and my connection to the Kineo community. These perspectives have given me a deeper understanding of the needs of both students and families, and allow me to work alongside teachers and parents to support our children’s growth and learning.
When you walk into our school, you’ll find students actively engaged in learning—but it might look a little different from the classrooms you remember. Some children may be sitting at desks, others on the floor, in floor chairs, standing, or even moving around. You might see students drawing while listening to a story, using fidgets to stay focussed during discussions, or taking movement breaks with a bounce-board or crash mat. We recognize that every student has a unique combination of sensory, academic, social, and emotional needs that can change from day to day. By creating a flexible, responsive learning environment, we help students feel more comfortable, engaged, and ready to learn.
As parents we do the best we can to provide our children with safe spaces to grow and learn about the world around them. Choosing a school where they feel safe and accepted is crucial for building their confidence to take risks, embrace mistakes and unlock their potential.
If this sounds like a learning community that you and your child would like to be a part of then I warmly invite you to reach out and learn more about The Kineo School. I look forward to connecting with your family!
Sincerely,
Elizabeth Kent
